Custom Iconography Handdrawn Set - Exploration and Development

BACKGROUND

When creating the icons my goal was to create a fresh & fun aesthetic while maintaining cohesion across all three sets. I wanted to challenge myself by using different color palettes, but when the icons came together, the colors would work in harmony. There are three icon sets: camping, fishing, and cooking.

LINE ART

I designed all of the line work by hand on my iPad in Procreate. I chose to do draw these icons by hand because I wanted to keep the ruggedness and human lines to it because the subject is the wilderness and outdoors.

I went through multiple stages of refining the line work to make sure that all three of the sets would work together.

COLOR RENDER

When choosing what colors to use, I decided to have three unique color pallets. I did this so that each icon set would have a different look to it. But, when put all together, the colors would be in harmony.

The camping icons feature earthy and muted tones, while the fishing icons are cooler in color and have a steeliness to them. The cooking icons use yellow and red/pink because yellow is associated with food and the color makes people hungry, while red/pink is exciting and invigorating.
